About

About Benson Hollow

If you are hoping to learn or improve homesteading skills or looking for inspiration in making your house into a beautiful, comfortable home this site is just for you! We offer many tutorials, DIY projects, recipes, tours and updates to teach, encourage and inspire. I’m still learning, too. but love to share things as I discover them.

Where we are coming from

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

I read this quote in a magazine several years ago and it made a huge impression on me. At the time I was living in a single wide trailer in a trailer park. I hade 2 very small children and felt like it was impossible to move forward with my dreams of homesteading. Nothing could be further from the truth!

In the next few years I filled the flower beds with strawberry plants, grew lettuce in a small box behind the house, learned to bottle beans and salsa, and freeze corn and jams. My cooking skills improved as I used them more. And, I found a love for DIY and decorating. I wish this meant that we always had a beautifully decorated home but unfortunately it usually means that we are living in a project. I, secretly, hope this blog will help motivate me to finish things in a more timely manner.

In 2012 we moved our growing family into a small house across from my in-laws-farm. This opened the door to raising animals. We currently have cats, a dog, chickens, cows, sheep and a rabbit. We’ve also raised pigs in the past, which I love, but don’t have any at the moment.

Where we are going

Sometimes in order to move forward you have to take a step back. This is defiantly the case for our family at the moment. This fall we are moving our not so small family back in to a trailer park. Hopefully, this move will be short and sweet. To be honest, I’m actually pretty excited for this adventure.

I hope you will find lots of Ideas within this site. Check back often. We add more content every week.
